Frequently Asked Questions

Are you a nonprofit?

Yes! We are a 501(c)(3) nonprofit providing comprehensive prenatal care (on wheels!) to communities around Central Florida with low access to care.

how do you help the community?

We visit and provide comprehensive prenatal care, education and support to underserved women and provide them with resources that will help establish self-reliance.

how Can I donate?

At the bottom of this page OR Under the donate tab on our website! Also, consider purchasing some merch from us in our store and wear to help support our cause! Any money donated to our organization is tax deductible.

Where does my donation go?

We serve many women who are financially needy and uninsured. Some are waiting for Medicaid to be approved but need care now. Some of the women we serve have many barriers ( missing ID, language barrier, limited access to computer or telephone) which takes time to work through. Cash donations help us get their care started while we resolve these barriers and get them covered by Medicaid.

do women deliver babies on the bus?

No- at least not on purpose! The bus is used as a mobile midwifery clinic. It’s just like a Drs office but on wheels! Women receive all their care on the bus and deliver at the hospital or at home.

who drives the bus?

Our Bus Driver / Medical Assistant, Lindsay! And occasionally our Midwife, Brooke : )

where in the community do you park the bus?

Our four locations are currently:

Mondays: (The Grand Avenue Neighborhood Center) Address: 800 Grand Street Orlando, Florida 32805

Yes! Very! For Low risk, healthy mothers and babies, homebirths are actually considered a safer way to deliver. Homebirths lead to fewer interventions, breastfeeding success, increased postpartum health and especially with the right education, empowered parents.

what does the midwife bring to a birth?

Great question! We bring a birth bag that includes all equipment necessary for vital signs, fetal monitoring, IV fluids, IV antibiotics, resuscitation equipment, oxygen, hemorrhage medication, a birth pool, herbs, homeopathy, and much more!

who will attend the birth?

We always attend births in a team of two, which includes our primary Midwife, Brooke and our Birth Assistant, Brittany.

what if there was an emergency?

Emergency Transfers are rare in the low-risk population. However, we always plan in prepare just in case. At 37 weeks we come to your home and complete an emergency car plan together which outlines the nearest hospitals and our emergency protocols. In the event of an emergency, we ride with you in the ambulance, give report and records to the hospital staff, and stay with you as a support person as long as you need us.

what if I want a hospital birth?

We support whatever decision you want to make. If a hospital is where you desire to give birth, you can still receive all of your prenatal and postpartum care in a respectful & individualized environment here on the bus! We love our hospital moms. We complete and compile your prenatal record, call the hospital when you’re in labor, fax over all of your records and resume your postpartum care once you’re discharged.

how do you help prepare moms?

We are heavy on education. We will guide you through each process, question, or concern you have. From test results to supplements to diet - we walk you through the dos and don’ts that will help to set you up for a successful birth and postpartum experience. All of our patients have direct access to providers via text, phone calls, and portal messaging. This is a game changer! Especially for those having a baby (or an out-of-hospital birth) for the first time.

do you take high-risk moms?

No. We care for low-risk healthy women and low-risk healthy babies. If you are unsure whether or not you are high risk, we can do a risk assessment together at your consult. If you become high risk at any point in your pregnancy, we will help you get to the right provider who will handle your case.

how much does a homebirth cost?

Homebirths are considerably less expensive than hospital birth. Our global OB package is often times less than your insurance deductable. At this time we are not under contract with any insurance companies for homebirth services. However, we will help you bill your insurance as an out-of-network provider.
