Meet our team
Brooke Schmoe, CPM/LM
Founder & Midwife
Brooke Schmoe is a native of Osceola County, Florida. She grew up amongst the medical journals and birth stories of her OBGYN father, which sparked an interest in women’s health from an early age. Birthing her first daughter under the care of a midwife inspired her to pursue midwifery as a profession.
She graduated in 2015 from The Florida School of Traditional Midwifery in Gainesville, Florida. She began dreaming about The Midwife Bus concept after working at a high-volume practice and seeing the blatant disparities in education, pregnancy health, emotional health, birth outcomes, and quality of life between the wealthy and indigent families.
She cares sincerely about educating patients, giving them autonomy over their own healthcare, and connecting families with resources that will help them establish self-reliance.
She currently resides in South-East Orlando with her husband Nathan and their four daughters.
Jay Alméstica, CPM/LM
Midwife
For over 17 years, midwifery has been more than just a career for Midwife Jay—it’s been a calling that has shaped her life. She is mother of four who is deeply passionate about empowering women throughout their childbirth journeys and has devoted her life to supporting families with compassion and heartfelt care.
Her path in birth work began in Puerto Rico, where she started as a birth and postpartum doula and quickly discovered her purpose. Over the years, she expanded her skills to include childbirth education, birth assisting, breastfeeding support, and volunteering as a La Leche League Leader. In 2014, she relocated to Florida, and by 2020, she began her journey to become a licensed midwife at Commonsense Childbirth School of Midwifery. Every birth, every postpartum visit, and every family she has supported has reinforced her belief in the power of personalized, respectful care.
Midwifery came into her life during a time of personal healing, allowing her to transform her own traumatic birth experiences into a mission of helping others find strength, peace, and confidence in childbirth. She is incredibly grateful to the 400+ families who have trusted her with their care and allowed her to share in their birth stories.
She is thrilled to be part of The Midwife Bus, a practice dedicated to making high-quality, compassionate maternity care accessible to all.
